Joe Flacco is set for a return to the Cleveland Browns, agreeing to a one-year, $4 million contract, according to reports. The team has since confirmed the signing. This marks a comeback for the 40-year-old quarterback, who played for the Indianapolis Colts in 2024 after a successful stint with the Browns in 2023 that saw them reach the playoffs. He now joins a quarterback room that includes Kenny Pickett and the injured Deshaun Watson.

The reunion appears to be a logical move for both sides. Flacco is familiar with head coach Kevin Stefanski’s offensive system and demonstrated his effectiveness by going 4-1 as a starter for Cleveland in 2023. Many observers noted that the Browns’ offense performed at its peak in recent seasons when Flacco was leading it, showcasing his ability to make impactful plays and maintain offensive flow, a consistency that was lacking with other quarterbacks.

Flacco’s return arguably validates the sentiment that he should have remained in Cleveland after his stellar 2023 performance, which earned him the AP NFL Comeback Player of the Year award. With Deshaun Watson facing a significant absence due to an Achilles injury, Flacco provides a financially sensible veteran option to stabilize the team. His contract incentives suggest that substantial earnings are tied to his playing time.

While Flacco’s presence might reduce the likelihood of Cleveland pursuing other veteran quarterbacks, such as a potential trade for Kirk Cousins, it is not expected to deter the team from drafting a rookie quarterback in the 2025 NFL Draft if they identify a player with long-term potential.Nguồn và nội dung liên quan
